Principal's News

Kaya families

Since the last newsletter there has been lots of activity in the school.

Year 5 Sleepover and Leadership Activities

The Year 5 teachers introduced a sleepover for the students as part of the leadership development program. The pictures tell the story! I would like to thank Mrs Heidi Cobbledick, Mr Kyle Easther, Mr Ben Brooke and Miss Skye Mercer for managing the sleepover. Thank you also to Miss Sanela Sivic and Mr Craig Morrey for their assistance during the evening and following morning.

Thank you to Matt Evans from Woolworths for the generous donation of sausages and for their ongoing support of the school.

Faction Athletics Carnival

The Faction Athletics Carnival was great! Red was triumphant and led throughout the day with the other factions battling it out for their final ladder placement. As always, we saw children try their very best to compete fairly and enjoy the opportunity to challenge their friends and classmates.

I would like to acknowledge the work of the faction captains who were a great help to staff.

The carnival would not have been possible with the efforts of Mr Craig Morrey, our Physical Education teacher. Behind such a smooth event are hours of work in teaching skills, keeping staff on track and planning for each minute. Everyone contributed through organising children, managing the start and finish of races and games, keeping track of the points, manning the first aid station, and setting up and pulling down tents and this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to the canteen for keeping everyone fed on what is a super busy day.

National Science Week – Congratulations!

Some of our students represented the school at the JLC Primary Science Challenge and I am pleased to announce that WE WON! Congratulations to all of the students involved:

Year 4 Verety, Dita, Owen, Caderyn, Kevin and Joshua

Year 5 Stanley, Jasmine, Jayden and Koa

Year 6 Noella, Zoe, Jaidyn, Locrian, Cody and Tom

National Child Protection Week - Drawing Competition

Congratulations to Bianca and Sophia who won first and second prize in a drawing competition. It's National Child Protection Week and the Department of Communities asked some of our classes to draw a picture of their families. The key message for this important week is 'Every child in every community needs a fair go'. The girls were delighted with their prizes!

Interschool Basketball

Well done to all of the students who represented the school at the Slam Series Cup. Thank you to Mr Easther and Mr Morrey for the training they provided and being part of the day.

Swimming lessons in Term 4

Next term PP-Year 6 children will be participating in swimming lessons. This year there is no charge for swimming lessons as we are using grant money provided by the Australian Government. Government has provided the school with a one-off grant for mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

Permission notes have gone home to families and are due back by Wednesday 20 September.

Week 1 and 2 Wednesday 11 October - Friday 20 October Pre- Primary - Year 2
Week 3 and 4 Monday 23 October to Wednesday 1 November Year 3 - Year 5
Week 7 and 8 Monday 20 November to Friday 1 December Year 6 - Beach swimming

Year 6 Camp

Next term Year 6 students will be off on their camp adventure to Dwellingup. Given the chatter amongst the students (and staff) it will be a great time to get away from school and challenge themselves to new activities. I can hear the stories now – “Did you see how high the flying fox is?” “The mud was the best bit.” “We got no sleep on the first night.” I hope that the campers have a wonderful time!

RU OK Day?

To acknowledge RU OK? Day everyone is asked to wear something yellow this Thursday. Find out more about RU OK? at www.ruok.org.au

Traffic Wardens

I have been made aware that there are ongoing concerns about the absence of a traffic warden on Candlewood Drive. The management of traffic wardens is not the responsibility of the school. I have written to WA Police expressing our concerns. I am pleased to report that our traffic warden has returned to Candlewood Drive.

WA Police is very short-staffed on traffic wardens and their relief pool is nearly non-existent. If you are interested in working as a traffic warden, please let me know and I will pass on your name and contact details.

P&C Association Generosity

I would like to thank the P&C Association for their generous donation of $1800 which Mr Sutherland is using to purchase Choir shirts for members to wear at events. We are going to look very smart.

Upcoming Sausage Sizzle

The P&C will be holding a sausage sizzle on Saturday 14 October when the school is used as polling booth for The Voice referendum. There are two shifts: 8:00 am -11:00 am and 11:00 am-2:00 pm. If you are available, please contact the school and your details will be forwarded to Jenny Coyle.
