Principal's News

Kaya families
I would like to extend my ongoing appreciation for the staff, students and families as we continue to navigate the circumstances that COVID-19 presents. It is wonderful to see so many staff and students return to school after being unwell. For each class we are appreciating the consistency in teaching, classroom routines and work expectations that come with the same teachers and education assistants in classes every day.
Whilst our school management of COVID-19 has been good, staff and student absences have impacted on the amount and depth of the curriculum content taught and assessed. Consequently, we need to do some aspects of the Semester 1 reports differently. The report will include the A to E grades (or equivalent 5 point scale) for required learning areas, and information regarding your child’s attitude, behaviour and effort. There will, however, be one general comment rather than subject-specific comments.
Should you wish for additional information on your child’s progress, you will have the opportunity to discuss this at a parent/teacher conference and we are planning time for these in Term 3.
National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week
It has been wonderful to see the class work that has been done for National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. Together the staff and students are developing a shared understanding of history, culture, stories, achievement, and people.
The display of the purple hibiscus flower signifies compassion and healing, representing the stolen generation and the deep trauma suffered by many as a result.
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated in workplaces, schools, community organisations, and by individuals across the country.
Yesterday we held our annual smoking ceremony as an important component of reconciliation efforts at Joondalup Schools and we were very happy so many of our families supported this event.

School Captains Lunch
Last week the school captains shared lunch with Emily Hamilton, MLA, Member for Joondalup, at school. It was a great opportunity for Ms Hamilton and the captains to talk about leadership and service. The captains also saw a live presentation about the Western Australian Parliament and learnt about how laws are created and asked some well-considered questions about the levels of Government. I would like to thank Ms Hamilton for visiting the school.

School Development Day
Please remember that this Friday 3 June is a School Development Day so no children come to school.
Staff will be participating in a range of training including Talk for Writing, reviewing new curriculum support materials, and meeting with education assistants from other schools at the Joondalup Learning Community conference.
Assembly update
The next assembly will be held on Tuesday 7 June at 2.15pm and is being presented by the Year 1 students.
COVID-19 RATs
RATs continue to be available for families and if you have not collected your family’s allocation, please do so by the end of the week.
P&C Association
The next meeting is Wednesday 8 June 2022 at 7.00pm at the school. Mark it in your diary and plan to come along.
