Sustainability Corner
Kaya Wanjoo
As this term in Sustainability throughout the campus comes to a close, we have begun to plant a new area with Bush Tucker and an orchard. It is near the existing vegetable garden. Come on over and take a look.
Our campus had an amazing Reconciliation Week. This was well attended by parents and caregivers and has been a wonderful opportunity to learn from our First Nation people how for 60,000 years they have lived sustainably, using only what is needed, respecting the environment and sharing their wonderful culture and knowledge.

After School Garden Club
Our small but dedicated group of students, parents and staff come together every Monday afternoon from 3.15pm to 4pm to look after the garden. This term we tended to the garden and helped with the establishment of our new orchard. Look out for Term 3 invitation soon.
Please continue to bring in:
- Batteries
- Coffee pods (make sure they are DRY and EMPTY). You can bag the grounds up and sent to school as well.
- Ring pulls from cans of drink
- Plastic lids from bottles (wash and remove inner seal)
- Containers for change bottles/cans (clean and LIDS removed). Place in the BIG blue recycling skip near the admin area
I attended a fantastic professional learning day where Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander priorities were delivered in hands on lessons for us to take back to school. Did you know these priorities are taught in many different learning areas such as Science, HASS and Maths? Our school was acknowledged for our progressive journey in these two areas.
Happy gardening and sustainable thinking,
Sandra Bennett – Science/Sustainability Teacher (JESC). Sustainability Coordinator (Joondalup Schools)
