News from Room 30
Talk For Writing in Room 30.
In Year 1, Room 30 we learn to write using the Talk For Writing or T4W approach. T4W has a strong emphasis on using oral language and learning texts to develop our writing skills. We have used a text about Superhero Learners to learn about description, Jack and the Beanstalk to learn about characters, Unicorns to learn how to write an information report and Mr Big to look at settings. Each unit follows a three stage process that can take up to five weeks to complete.
- Imitation – we are ‘hooked’ into the text with a fun activity and then orally learn to tell a story using storymaps, drama, construction and art. We learn skills to develop our writing with a lot of ‘short burst’ writing activities.
- Innovation – we have a lot of fun changing the original story and having a go at writing the new story.
- Independent – we innovate and write our own story based on the original story. We often make our stories into books and love sharing our stories with each other.
We enjoy storytelling and story writing.
