Why is good attendance and punctuality important?

Education lays the vital foundations of a child’s life. Regular and punctual attendance at school is key to both academic and social development, which in turn will improve the life chances of children and young people. It is vitally important to have your child at school 10-15 minutes prior to school commencing at 8.50am, so that they can get ready for the day’s teaching and learning activities. Your child is deemed late when they arrive after 8.50am.

What does 90% attendance mean?

90% attendance = ½ school day missed every week.

One school year at 90% attendance = 4 weeks of learning missed.

Over 5 school years of school = ½ school year missed.

The Department classify Attendance percentages as

  1. Regular 90% or greater
  2. Indicated at Risk 80-<90%
  3. Indicated at Moderate Risk 60-<80%
  4. Indicated at Severe Risk <60%.

Check your child’s last school report to see which category your child fits into.

Our Business Plan

We are currently revising our Business Plan for 2019-2021. Our Business Plan communicates to all staff, parents and the community the strategic direction of our school and what we want to achieve over a three year period. It will be presented to the School Board next week and then refined by staff. Once the document is finalised, all families will receive a copy. We are also revising our school vision, more information regarding the new vision will be available soon.

New Online Permission Forms

The Department of Education has recently reviewed the Online Policies for students. As part of this process children and/or their parents/care givers need to complete an Online Services Acceptable Use Agreement. There is a form for students in Kindergarten to Year Two which sets out the rules for students using online environments and a different form for students in Year Three to Six. The forms create an opportunity for parents to reinforce the behaviours that ensure children are safe online. You should have received the new form. Please complete and return to your child’s classroom teacher by Friday 9th August.
